PyRosetta
Python interface to Rosetta for protein modelling and design.
RosettaCommons / University of Washington
What it does
Rosetta's Python API. Input: structures and movers you script; output: relaxed/minimised and scored structures, interface metrics (ddG), loop remodelling and packing. Dependency of several design pipelines.
Commercial use
RestrictedLicence as writtenRosettaCommons license (free academic/non-profit; paid commercial)
The official licensing page states licensing is free for academic and non-profit institutions and available to commercial users for a fee, handled through Rosetta Commons. A commercial entity needs a paid license.
Some commercial use is possible, but a component, dependency or condition needs a paid licence or carries obligations.
Is commercial use free of charge?
Paid commercial licenceFree for academic and non-profit users; commercial users pay a licence fee, quoted by RosettaCommons/UW on request rather than published as a list price. This is the single most common hidden cost in otherwise-free design pipelines (BindCraft, several Rosetta-based filters).
Price and rights are separate: this panel is about money, the panel above is about permission.
When to use it
Still the most complete toolbox for interface scoring, relaxation, loop modelling and FastRelax used by many design pipelines. The commercial license cost is the main blocker, and energies are not affinities.
