Evo 2
Genome-scale DNA/RNA/protein foundation model, Apache-2.0 including weights.
Arc Institute, with NVIDIA and Stanford
What it does
Models biological sequence at the nucleotide level across very long contexts. Input: DNA, RNA or protein sequence (up to ~1 Mb context); output: likelihoods for variant-effect prediction, embeddings, or generated sequence. Relevant to design work for variant scoring and regulatory/coding sequence generation rather than structure.
Commercial use
Commercial use OKLicence as writtenApache License 2.0
Repo LICENSE is Apache-2.0 and the Hugging Face checkpoints (arcinstitute/evo2_7b and siblings) declare apache-2.0 in their card metadata, so code and weights are both permissive. The published checkpoints are ungated.
The licence read at the source allows use by a company. Attribution or copyleft conditions may still apply — read the note.
Is commercial use free of charge?
Free for commercial useFree: Apache-2.0 code and weights with no fee. NVIDIA also sells hosted inference, which is optional.
Price and rights are separate: this panel is about money, the panel above is about permission.
When to use it
Useful when the question is nucleotide-level - variant effects, expression constructs, codon and regulatory design - not when you need a 3D structure. Large models need serious GPU memory.
