Proteina
Large flow-matching backbone generator from NVIDIA - research and evaluation only.
NVIDIA (BioNeMo)
What it does
Generates protein backbones at scale, including long chains and fold-class-conditioned samples. Input: length, fold class label or motif; output: backbone structures for downstream sequence design. Trained on a very large synthetic+PDB corpus.
Commercial use
Not for commercial useLicence as writtenNVIDIA License (non-commercial)
The LICENSE file's section 3.3 'Use Limitation' states the work and any derivative works 'only may be used or intended for use non-commercially', defining non-commercially as 'for research or evaluation purposes only', with an explicit carve-out letting NVIDIA itself use it commercially. Unambiguous: a company cannot use this in product work.
The licence limits use to non-commercial purposes; a company needs a separate agreement.
Is commercial use free of charge?
No commercial option at any priceNo commercial option exists at any price: the licence limits use to research or evaluation and NVIDIA publishes no commercial licence for it.
Price and rights are separate: this panel is about money, the panel above is about permission.
When to use it
Academic benchmarking of backbone generation, or inspiration for scale. For anything commercial, use RFdiffusion or Genie 2 instead - note that NVIDIA's own La-Proteina ships under different, commercially usable weight terms.
